Mrs. Steele-Smith has 30 years of Gymnastics coaching experience. She is currently coaching Edmonds Illusion Gymnastics as well as Roosevelt Gymnastics. Her expertise is Optional Gymnastics, and she has been coaching this level for a long time. She is able to help anyone from beginners to advanced Gymnasts.Assistant Coach

Rebecca Boyd
Becca is a Senior at Roosevelt High School and this is her 4th year of Roosevelt Gymnastics. She has been doing Gymnastics on and off her whole life. Becca went to Districts all 3 years years, and this is her third year as a captain. She is always available to answer any questions.Thuc Nhi Nguyen
Thuc is a junior and has competed with Roosevelt gymnastics for all of her high school seasons. At the age of nine, she attended the Purple and Gold Gymnastics Camp at the University of Washington and began doing gymnastics. Q: What should I wear?
A: A Sports Bra with any combination of the following: Leotard/Spandex/Shorts/T-Shirt.Q: How much do we practice?
A: We practice Mon-Fri from 2:45-5:15*.*End time subject to change, but always starts at 2:45PM right after school.
Q: How many practices do I need to be able to compete?
A: You need at least 15 practices to be able to compete,no exceptions per WIAA rules. All practices are mandatory and you should be at every one of them.Q: Where can I buy a leotard?
A: Leotards are not mandatory, but you can buy a leotard at the Seattle Gymnastics Academy*, online, the best sites are www.alphafactor.com or www.gk-elitesportswear.com, or at any Dance Store.*Seattle Gymnastics Academy

Q: When are meets*?
A: Meets are every Thursday night at 7PM at local High Schools, but the bus leaves for the meet between 3PM and 4:30PM depending on where the High School is. We set up the Gym for home meets and must arrive at school around the same time as the other meets.*In Gymnastics, games are called meets.
Q: Is this sport going to cost me additional money over the $50 Pay-to-Play?
A: Yes, you will need to buy a Warm-Up Leotard for Competitions*, and if you chose, Roosevelt Gymnastics Sweats.*About $30-$40, and you may need to buy spandex shorts and a nude sports bra that will not show during competition. Leotard Scholarships are limited but available.
Q: Are we allowed to wear shorts/spandex during competition?
A: No, you may only wear your Competition Leotard for competition.Q: Are we serious about mandatory practices and meets?
A: Yes, if you miss a practice or especially a meet without speaking to a coach you may do extra conditioning, not compete in the next meet at all, or compete in less events in the next meet. Wednesday practices before meets are mandatory for competing the next day.Q: Do we practice over Winter Break?
A: Yes, the days are not set yet but we will be practicing over the break. We also practice on Early Release Days we just practice earlier and sometimes at the Seattle Gymnastics Academy on Saturdays.Q: Where do we practice?
A: We practice in the Large Gym* and you will be given a locker and lock to keep your bags safe.*Room #185, or the smaller gym next to the main gym.
Q: Do you need to be dedicated?
A: YES we expect you to give 110% and not skip practices or take it as a joke. If you are doing this to try out for Cheerleading, and are not going to give Gymnastics 110% then we recommend you take a Cheerleading class at SGA.Q: Do you need your hair up at practices and meets?
A: Yes, you need to be able to see, and it is a deduction in meets. It is a girl’s sport there are no boys to impress, just put your hair up.Q: Can I wear any jewelry or nail polish?
A: No, both are deductions and are distracting. At practice, you should not wear jewelry, nail polish is ok but make sure it is off by the meet.Q: Do I need to keep a 2.0 to participate?
A: Yes, just like all other sports you need at least a 2.0 to practice and compete and Mr. Scott (Athletic Director) does check your grades regularly during the season.Q: Do I need experience?
A: No, you need no experience what so ever. Our coaches and captains are very capable of helping everyone, and we very much welcome newcomers.Any further questions may be answered on the first day of practice or you may reach a coach or captain

All of the meets are on Thursdays at 7 PM, except for the 1/16/10 meet, which is Saturday at 1 PM. Senior night is Thursday 1/28/10 at 7 PM.
